The COVID-19 outbreak represents perhaps the largest disruption to the global economy outside of the world wars. As investors have attempted to weigh up the support from central banks versus the economic impact of the containment measures, global equity markets have had a turbulent start to the year, with the first quarter’s sharp selloff quickly followed by the recent rebound.

Key takeouts
  • Structural changes in the market as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are showing some potential “winners and losers”
  • Companies who place employees first, preserve cash and cut capex costs will be in a better position to manage through the crisis
  • Growth as a style is continuing to outperform value
